Short articles about AI in real businesses.
Each article reports what happened when a business put AI to work: the problem, what the team tried, and how it turned out. We want the specifics a manager could learn from, written by the people who did the work or studied it closely.
Articles run 1,500 to 3,000 words. Practitioners and faculty both write for the journal, and we encourage them to write together.

- The tools, the process changes, and the decisions along the way.
- What happened
- The results, with numbers wherever you have them.
- What didn't work
- The parts that failed or surprised you, and what you'd change.
An account of what didn't work is as useful to a reader as an account of what did.
Your judgment, with any tools that help you think.
AI assistance is welcome for research, drafting, and working through a difficult section. AI-authored articles are not accepted. Tell us how you used AI when you submit. What matters is that the judgment on the page is yours.

An AI review checks length, structure, and fit with the journal. If the article doesn't fit yet, you get specific feedback and can revise and resubmit.

A human reviewer judges whether the article is clear, specific, and useful to a reader running a business.
Dr. Vikram Sethi, a professor of MIS at Wright State University's Raj Soin College of Business with more than 50 published papers, is the inaugural editor of Field Notes Journal. He also edits Five Zero Books, Flexee's series of interactive books paired with its simulations.

Who can submit?
Practitioners and faculty. Many of the strongest articles come from the two working together, so co-authored submissions are welcome.
How long should an article be?
Between 1,500 and 3,000 words.
Can I write about a project that failed?
Yes. Articles about what didn't work are as welcome as articles about what did.
Can I use AI to help write it?
Yes, for research, drafting, or a difficult section. Tell us how you used it, and make sure the finished article reflects your own judgment.
Does it cost anything to read?
No. The journal is online and free to read.
Is there a deadline?
No. Submissions are rolling, and we're accepting them now for the first issue.
